Terms and Conditions

1. Agreement

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of The Willow Book, a personal event guestbook service available at toastboard.web.app (the “Service”). By creating a guestbook, submitting Guest Content, viewing a guestbook, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

The Willow Book is a live guestbook for personal events. Guests scan a QR code or open a guest link, leave an optional name, a note, and photos (up to ten per message). On Heirloom and Legacy guestbooks, guests may also leave one short video (under 10 MiB) per message — not both photos and video in the same message. Video uploads may show a processing state until Cloud Functions prepare a browser-compatible display copy. Guests never create an account or sign in.

Hosts sign in with Google or email to create guestbooks and reopen them from their account. Only the signed-in owner can moderate that guestbook.

3. Plans, trial, and keeping period

Each guestbook is covered by a one-time plan: Keepsake (photos only, kept one year), Heirloom (photos and video, kept five years), or Legacy (photos and video, kept ten years). Storage limits follow the plan shown at purchase.

Every Firebase account may start one 14-day free trial when creating a first guestbook. The trial runs on the Keepsake plan: photos only, no guest video. During the trial, the guestbook is publicly readable and guests may add messages without signing in. The trial clock starts when the guestbook is created, not at registration.

If you do not purchase before the trial ends, the guestbook becomes locked: guests cannot open it or add messages. You may still sign in, read messages, and export while locked. Thirty days after the trial ends, the guestbook and its data are removed unless you purchase first.

After purchase, the keeping period is measured from the purchase date. When that period ends, public guest access closes for three months while you may still open and export. After that grace period, the guestbook and its data are removed.

Payments are not accepted through the Service at this time. When they are, each guestbook will require its own one-time purchase; there is no subscription or per-seat billing.

4. Host account

When you create a guestbook while signed in, The Willow Book saves it to your account. Only that signed-in account can open host tools and moderate the guestbook. You are responsible for protecting access to your account.

5. Guest content

Guests may submit text, photos, and short videos (“Guest Content”). Guest Content posted to a guestbook may be shown on a public guestbook and in a slideshow for that event. You retain ownership of content you submit, and you grant The Willow Book a worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, store, display, transcode or remux video as needed, and transmit content as needed to operate the Service.

You must only submit content you have the right to share. Do not submit unlawful, abusive, harassing, defamatory, infringing, or otherwise inappropriate material. Hosts may hide or remove Guest Content. The Willow Book may remove content or disable access that violates these Terms or harms the Service.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Service, including by attempting unauthorized access, interfering with operation, scraping at abusive rates, uploading malware, or using the Service for spam or commercial solicitation unrelated to a personal event guestbook.

7. Intellectual property

The Willow Book’s name, branding, design, and software are owned by The Willow Book or its licensors. These Terms do not grant you rights to copy, modify, or redistribute the Service except as needed for ordinary use.

8. Availability and changes

The Service is provided as-is. Features may change, and The Willow Book may suspend or discontinue parts of the Service. We may update these Terms by posting a revised version with an updated effective date. Continued use after changes means you accept the revised Terms.

9. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. The Willow Book does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that Guest Content will be preserved indefinitely.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE WILLOW BOOK AND ITS OPERATORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US $100) OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO USE THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, WHICHEVER IS GREATER. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those places, liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted.

11. Privacy

How we handle information is described in our Privacy Policy.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable where The Willow Book operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Courts in that jurisdiction will have exclusive venue for disputes that cannot be resolved informally, except where mandatory consumer protections require otherwise.
